City & Guilds - Award in Book-keeping and Accounts - Levels 1, 2 and 3



These courses are suitable for you if you are preparing for employment in book-keeping/administrative roles which require some knowledge of manual book-keeping.  They are also suitable if you are already employed in book-keeping/data processing roles and wish to develop your skills.

Level 1 Award:

Evening, time of class and number of weeks to be confirmed 

(Sepember 2013 start) 



At level 1 you will learn how to complete financial documents such as:

 

  • Invoices
  • Credit Notes
  • Recording cash and credit transactions in books or original entry
  • Prepare bank reconciliation
  • Petty cash imprest systems
  • Trial balance

At the end of the course your skills and knowledge will be tested by taking one examination - (1.30 hours plus 5 minutes reading).



Level 2 Award:

Evening, time of class and number of weeks to be confirmed

(January 2013 start)



At level 2 you will learn how to prepare financial documents such as:

  • Ledger accounts
  • Control accounts
  • Correcting errors in business accounts (such as identifying errors in ledger accounts)
  • Capital and revenue expenditure
  • Depreciation
  • End of year adjustments
  • Trial balance

At the end of the course your skills and knowledge will be tested by taking one examination - (2 hours plus 5 minutes reading).



Level 3 Award:

Evening, time of class and number of weeks to be confirmed

(September start)



At level 3 you will learn how to prepare financial information for:

  • Sole traders
  • Partnerships
  • Limited liability companies
  • Not for profit organisations
  • Manufacturing accounts

This will include balance sheets, profit and loss accounts and period end adjustments.



At the end of the course your skills and knowledge will be tested by taking one examination - (2.30 hours plus 5 minutes reading).





Achievement:

You will develop skills in book-keeping and accounts as you progress through the various levels of these qualifications, and you could look for work as an Accounts/Finance clerk, an Accounting Technician or a Private Practice Accountant.



Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for these qualification and they are available to anyone who is capable of reaching the required standards.  You would however need a good level of numeracy and written English.
