AAT Access Level 1 Certificate in Accounting

Tuesday evening 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm 
23 weeks (January 2012 start) - The Centre uses the latest Microsoft Office 2007 software.

The AAT Access Level 1 Award in Accounting qualifcation is designed to help less experienced learners gain the skills and confidence to build a career in business or accountancy.  This course is an excellent first step towards the Level 2 course ensuring learners have grasped accountancy concepts; it offers you the chance to gain a useful practical qualification whilst learning at your own pace.  The qualification us made up of four skills and knowledge units:

  • Mathematics for accounting (1 credit) 
  • Accounting in a professional environment (1 credit)
  • Essential accounting procedures (3 credits)
  • Creating business documents (3 credits)

At the end of the course your skills and knowledge will be tested using a computer based assessment - (CBA - 90 minutes in length).

Progression:  If you complete another three levels, i.e. Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and finally the Level 4 Diploma in Accounting you will achieve the full AAT Certificate in Accounting.

Entry Requirements
You will need a good standard of written English, level 1 in numeracy and basic IT skills (word processing).  It is possible for learners to enrol onto this Level 1 qualification who may be enrolled on the Level 2 qualifcation elsewhere as you cover some of the basic accounting terms and learn to create business documents necessary in the business environment.

OCR Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping Skills & AAT - Access Level 1 Award in Accounting


OCR - Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping Skills (Manual)

Monday evening 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm 
12 weeks (September 2011 start) The Centre uses the latest Microsoft Office 2007 software.

The OCR Award in Bookkeeping Skills is suitable for those who are studying in preparation for employment in bookkeeping or administrative roles which require some knowledge of bookkeeping.  It is also suitable for those who are already employed in bookkeeping/data processing roles and who wish to develop their skills.  This Level 1 Award offers a starting point for manual bookkeeping and enables progression onto Level 1 computerised and/or Level 2 manual/computerised bookkeeping skills.  Students can also progress onto other qualifications with other awarding bodies such as the AAT.

The qualification us made up of five units:

  • Preparing and processing bookkeeping documents (1 credit)
  • Recording credit transactions (1 credit)
  • Making and receiving payments (1 credit)
  • Recording receipts and payments (1 credit)
  • Maintaining petty cash records (1 credit)

At the end of each unit you will undertake a 45 minute assessment.  To pass the qualification you will be required to complete all five units.

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification and is available to anyone who is capable of reaching the required standards.  You would however need a good level of numeracy and written English.
