Art, Craft and Design AS/A2 · AQA

Art, Craft & Design is an exciting and challenging subject that encourages creative expressive skills and aesthetic understanding. The aim of this course is to promote a broad based art, craft and design learning experience across a range of areas to explore two and three dimensional media, processes and techniques.

At AS level you will work across the areas of fine art drawing, painting and ceramics progressing onto more areas at A2 level. You will use research into the work of other crafts people, designers and artists to develop your own knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design across time and history


Course Outline
4 Units, 2 for AS and 2 for A2

AS Level
Unit 1 50% of AS marks, 25% of A Level marks

Portfolio - a coursework unit where you will produce a collection of materials that exemplifies work carried out at AS.

Unit 2 50% of AS marks, 25% of A Level marks
Externally - Set Assignment - you will choose from starting points set by AQA. There will be a preparation phase over several weeks, where you will develop work leading to a final outcome. During the preparation phase there will be a 5 hour supervised exam.

A2 Level
Unit 3 25% of A Level marks

Personal Investigation - you will develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme supported by 1000 - 3000 words.

Unit 4 25% of A Level marks
Externally - Set Assignment - you will choose from starting points set by AQA. There will be a preparation phase of several weeks, where you will develop work leading to a final outcome, produced during a 15 hour supervised period of which the first 3 are carried out under exam conditions.
