Course Outline
6 units of assessment – 3 for AS and 3 for A2.
AS Level
This is made up of three compulsory units which are:
Exploring Leisure
(assessed through coursework/portfolio work)
Definitions of leisure, range and scale of importance of the industry, different sectors, barriers to access/participation and the role of the media in Leisure.
Customer service in the Leisure industry
(assessed through coursework/portfolio work)
Customer service skills, needs of internal and external customers and assessing the quality of customer service.
Leisure industry practice
(assessed through examination)
Safe working practices, marketing, budgeting, measurement of the quality and key business systems.
A2 Level
The full award is made up of the three AS compulsory units and three more which are:
Event management
(assessed through coursework/portfolio work)
Organise and run an event which includes; assessing feasibility, teamwork, marketing, financing and
evaluation.
Human resources in the Leisure industry
(assessed through examination)
Employment opportunities, human resource planning, recruitment and selection and induction training and development.
Leisure in the outdoors
(assessed through coursework/portfolio work)
Development and types of leisure in the outdoors, organisations involved, outdoor projects and managing the impact of Leisure in the outdoors.
