Pathways
Functional Skills/Life Skills AQA/OCR/EDEXCEL/City & Guilds
Pathways at Aquinas is a two year programme designed for students who are achieving at National Curriculum Levels 1 or 2 at school, or Entry Level 1 or 2 and who want to continue to develop the skills they need for everyday life and the world of work. All students work towards Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT and a Foundation Learning qualification, all at Entry Level (E1,E2,E3).
Course Outline
An Individual Learning Plan will be designed for you and you will continue with English, Maths and ICT at your own level. You will be able to gain qualifications in these subjects. Groups are small and tailored to individual needs. In addition to these subjects you will follow a programme of life skills, which will also lead to a nationally recognised qualification. All the activities that you do will involve a wide range of tasks to develop skills, which are essential both in everyday life and the world of work. You will be given help in deciding which areas of employment you may be interested in and you will take part in work experience placements. You may prefer to continue in further education. A Connexions Adviser attached to the course will help you with future plans.
In line with national standards some of your work will be assessed through assignments that you complete during the course, which will be assembled in portfolios according to the subject. Some of the work will be assessed through tests at the appropriate level. Your teacher will help you to assemble your portfolios and you will be given appropriate support with the tests.
Preferred Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements but you will be assessed prior to entry on the course to establish your starting point on the National Standards.
