On our recent return visit to our partner school ISSIS Verdi in Valdobbiadene near Venice 12 students were treated to typical Italian hospitality, lovely weather and glorious food.
Aquinas students in Verona
They had the opportunity to visit Verona, city of Romeo & Juliet; and the beautiful Padova with the 2nd largest piazza in Europe (Prato della Valle). Also in Padova we saw the rather gruesomely displayed remains of St Anthony in the cathedral and took a walk through the rolling vineyards of this famous wine region.
Romeo and Juliet?
Obviously, a day in Venice with the famous Doge's palace, St Marks' Basilica and Bridge of Sighs with the sun glinting on the Grand Canal was a highpoint of the trip, along with a slightly breezy day at the beach at Lido di Jesolo.
Taking in the sights
Everyone improved their Italian skills, some discovering hidden linguistic talents, some building on their A-level knowledge. Also, we quite simply had a wonderful time!
This trip is a must for anyone studying Italian, coming as it does, at the perfect time just before oral exams. However the trip is open to any student with an interest in Italy and a sense of adventure -if you haven't discovered the delights of La Bella Italia, how about coming with us next year?
