Painting and Drawing Beginners  Monday (6.45pm – 8.45pm)  Intermediate Tuesday (6.45pm – 8.45pm)

 

This is a one-year course paid termly which covers the basic techniques in Drawing, Painting and simple printmaking. This course is designed for those who have little or no knowledge or background in the visual arts.

 

The course will give you the opportunity to try a variety of art materials, build your confidence in making art and working at your own pace.

There will be opportunities to discuss your ideas with the tutor and others in a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

The scheme of work for the year is set in modules which

cover subjects such as aspects of drawing. For example:

  • using charcoal;
  • pencils;
  • using one- and two-point perspective;
  • using various types of paint;
  • looking at different colour palettes;
  • how to mix different colours; and
  • how to use palette knives and different brushes.

It will introduce a knowledge of artists and their practice from both the past and present.

This is a non-examination course.

No experience needed, but a creative interest in visual art would be useful

Most materials are included in the cost of the course with the exception of optional stretched canvases. You will also need to bring:

  • An apron
  • An A2 sized folder/portfolio or large carrier bag for work as the college has no storage
  • You will also need to bring in source material for your working ideas as and when required and you will be notified in advance about what materials to bring.

Painting and Drawing (Intermediate) Tuesday (6.45pm – 8.45pm)

This is a one-year course paid termly designed for rusty returners or those who have attended art evening courses previously at Aquinas College or other short courses elsewhere. This course assumes you have basic knowledge, skills and have used a variety of art materials.
The course covers traditional approaches to painting and drawing as well as introducing more extended techniques such as:

  • basic batik
  • mosaic
  • image transfer; and
  • basic printmaking.

There will be opportunities to discuss your ideas with the tutor and others in a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

The scheme of work for the year is set in modules which last for several weeks to allow you to explore the subject and work at your own pace. There would also be an option to specialise in a particular area of study in more depth if you wanted to take this approach.

Experience Needed: Painting and Drawing Skills beginners course completed, or other short art courses have been attended. A knowledge of basic painting/drawing techniques
