Aquinas College visit to Liverpool Airport

Visit to Liverpool Airport

Visit to Manchester AirportAquinas College students who are interested in a career linked to aviation, have recently taken part in a visit to Liverpool Airport. The visit started with a very entertaining talk by Ravenair’s Chief Flying Instructor Guy Story, who explained about his fascinating career. Students also heard about how to become a pilot and the different licenses that are required from David Smith and Kimberley, a flying instructor still in her early 20’s. Mark Pickford, Head of Engineering showed us around the workshops where the planes are serviced and repaired. Student’s even got to sit in a small plane and had a quick introduction to flying! The Airport Fire Station Manager, gave an excellent insight into the work of the fire brigade at an airport and the types of training they do on a daily basis. The highlight of the day was the visit to the air traffic control tower and the radar room where we saw planes taking off with an explanation of the waiting times between take offs.
