Degree Apprenticeship Information Evening

Audience at the Degree Apprenticeship Information Evening

On Tuesday evening, Aquinas College hosted our first ever degree apprenticeship event to support students and their families with getting info about this career route. Still relatively new, degree apprenticeships allow the individual to experience the best of both worlds – gaining the benefits of an apprenticeship (gaining work experience with an employer whilst also earning a wage) and achieving a higher education degree without paying a penny!

Over 200 students and their parents/carers were in attendance to gain an insight into the ‘degree apprenticeship world.’

Jess East from the Manchester Metropolitan University Degree Apprenticeship team gave an overview of the career route whilst Ashley and Ben from SmartDCC provided an insight into the employer’s point of view. The session ended with an interesting Questions and Answers panel of Apprentices, three of whom were former Aquinas students!

It was great to welcome back former students Oliver, Sarah and Kiera as well as Degree Apprentice Moin who provided a lot of insight into their experience and advice to the audience. They all felt the route was a ‘no-brainer’ as the degree apprenticeship route provides them with essential work experience in their job sectors of choice whilst also a wage alongside studying for their degree.

Thank you to all of our guests who provided a fantastic insight into Degree Apprenticeships!

Aquinas College will again play host to a range of apprenticeship providers, employers and universities during our After Aquinas careers information event on Thursday 26th March, 3.30 – 7pm. This event will be open to all students and their parents/carers.

Manchester Metropolitan University will be holding their own Degree Apprenticeship evening on Thursday 12th March. You can find out more details through this link – http://www2.mmu.ac.uk/apprenticeships/events/
