AS/A2 WJEC
This one year course will enable you to:
- Communicate confidently and clearly and effectively in the foreign language
- Develop insights into the country/ countries where the language is spoken.
- Study a subject that combines well with any AS/A2 subject
- Develop skills that are highly valued by employers and universities
- Take part in exchanges and trips which will enrich your experiences at college
Course Outline AS level is a natural progression from GCSE and many of the topic areas will be familiar to you. This will make for a smoother transition to AS and the topics are handled in a more mature and intellectually stretching way.
The course is organised into units:
- Trends and fashion
- Food and healthy living
- Education
- Sport and leisure
- Travel and tourism
As well as your lessons with your teachers you will have a timetabled lesson each week with the foreign language assistant in smaller groups to focus on speaking and listening. At the end of the course you will take two exams which will test your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.
A2 Level The second year builds on skills acquired at AS level. Grammar and vocabulary are reinforced and extended through the study of topics including: the environment, social and political issues. At A2 you study two culture/society topics in greater depth.
Preferred Entry Requirements You should have a GCSE pass grade A or B in your chosen language. Students take a little time out on a recent exchange.*
*Please note that your enrolment on to a particular course must be approved by the Head of that department.
Spanish GCSE AQA
This course will enable you to:
- develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of the language in a range of contexts
- develop the ability to communicate effectively in using a range of vocabulary and structures
- develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities, where the language is spoken.
- provide a foundation for further study to AS in the second year

Entry Requirements There are no special entry requirements for this course, but you should enjoy learning a foreign language. For able linguists, there is the possibility of progressing to AS level in the second year. |
