At Aquinas we will endeavour to give you the opportunity to continue to participate/or pick-up a variety of sports and physical activities as part of your educational and personal development.
These activities include:
Competitive Sport (South Manchester Sports League)
- Football teams x 2.
- Netball team.
- Mixed hockey team.
- Girls 5-a-side football.
- Basketball team
And wider entry of local, regional and national competitions in a variety of sports.
- British Colleges for sport.
- Bazuka National Swimming Tournament.
Recreational Sport Rounders, Cricket, 5-a-side football, Netball, Badminton, Tag Rugby, Table tennis, Volleyball, Circuit training, Trampolining, Aerobics, Tybo, Tennis, Drop-in Fitness Suite, Hockey, Rock climbing/abseiling, Basketball, Skiing. Barbados sport tours every 2 years with the next one in 2010.
From the beginner to the elite performer, it is our aim to give all students equal opportunities to participate in a variety of sporting and physical activities.
Participation Opportunities You as students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting activities. These include competitive and non-competitive sport, recreational sport and coaching qualifications in a variety of sports. You will also be encouraged to take an active role in the organisation of these activities. As part of your personal development you could become responsible for the organisation of a 5-a-side football league, a basketball league, table tennis tournaments, netball or rounders competitions, or simply become involved in the setting up of beginners sessions in a variety of sports.
Why would I want to become involved in the participation and organisation of sporting activities ?
- You would receive recognition certificates for the organisation of leagues/competitions etc.
- Prizes, trophies and certificates to be given to competition winners (team and individual).
- Useful for UCAS/Job application forms.
- Personal development: organisational skills, communicational skills, confidence etc.
- Develop/improve practically in a variety of sports.
- Enjoyment.
- Keep fit.
- Meet new friends.
Coaching qualifications As students you will also be given the opportunity to attain a variety of coaching, leading and officiating qualifications. These could include the CSLA, HSLA, Football level 1 and 2, Tag Rugby award and Basketball leadership and refereeing.
Why would I want to obtain coaching qualifications ?
- Useful for UCAS/Job applications.
- Opportunities for summer, evening and weekend work.
- Personal development: organisational skills, communication skills, confidence etc.
Other information To help them achieve extra coaching qualifications, or participate in the variety of sporting opportunities students can take advantage of the learner support fund. This fund is designed to help students with the costs of attending college, purchasing equipment such as boots or sports equipment etc.
