Getting to and from College Aquinas is easily reached by both bus and rail services. Transport is available from parts of North Cheshire and North Derbyshire.
Details of these services are listed below.
Paying For Services Regional rail and bus services offer lower rates for students who live within the Greater Manchester area. The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive operates a concessionary scheme for college students. To obtain the concession it is necessary to obtain an application form. These are available from Student Information.
You will need two passport photographs which need to be stamped on the back with the college stamp and a copy of your birth certificate. The application form also needs stamping at Student Information. Students travelling without permits will be charged a full adult fare.
The completed form, endorsed photographs, birth certificate and relevant fee should be sent to Passes and Permits, GMPTE, 9 Portland St., Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester M60 1HX.
Do not apply for GMPTE permits before 1st August 2008
Derbyshire Students Students travelling from North Derbyshire should obtain a Derbyshire concessionary fare card from Derbyshire County Council area office, Kents Bank Road, Buxton or Student Information. If a return fare is booked in Derbyshire the concession applies to both journeys each day and will be the cheapest way of using public transport.
Cheshire Students Students living in Cheshire but outside Greater Manchester area may be entitled to travel concessions. Students should contact the Cheshire County Council Transport section, Rivacre Business Centre, Mill Lane, Ellesmere Port, L66 3TZ or the Aquinas Student Information Centre on 0161 419 3624.
Any changes to transport arrangements will be posted on Student Information noticeboard.
The Young Persons Rail Card The Young Persons Rail Card holder can be eligible for up to 1/3 off rail fares throughout Britain. Information and application forms are available on the website: www.youngpersons-railcard.co.uk.
Variance Vouchers If you claim a concessionary fare but your course or work requires you to travel outside college hours or on a different route, you are eligible for a Variance Voucher which allows you to travel at the reduced rate. Ask for a Variance Voucher at the Student Information Centre prior to travelling.
Car Parking To help protect the environment, staff and students are encouraged, wherever possible, to avoid using private cars to get to college. Where it is essential to bring a car to college, please consider sharing it with other staff or students. Car parking space at the front of the college is reserved for visitors and those with mobility difficulties. Staff and students are asked to use the car parks at the side and adjacent to the Sports Hall. If you have to park on the road please ensure you are parked legally and in a manner which will not inconvenience our neighbours or members of the public.
Motorcycles and bicycles may be secured to the racks provided at the front of the building.
Secure bicycle lockers are available for regular cyclists by arrangement.
