What is the EDC ?
EDC stands for Educational Development Centre. It is a classroom-sized facility created to support the exploration of learning and teaching. It enables staff, working with students, fellow colleagues, outside trainers or colleagues from other institutions and bodies to:

  • reflect on their teaching style and share good practice with colleagues
  • explore new technologies in a comfortable, supported environment
  • consider how they might integrate IT into lesson planning and teaching practice
  • evaluate different teaching room layouts and furniture styles.

What activities take place in the EDC ?
A mix of activities such as:

  • whole class supported subject lessons – teaching staff can book in to use the facility with their students once they have undertaken training on the use of the EDC
  • a full programme of sharing good practice events
  • regular drop-in and bookable one-to-one or group support sessions on such things as the use of the VLE or use of the kit in the EDC
  • regular events show casing new technology
  • meetings, both internal and external

Who should I contact if I want to know more about the room ?
Judy Bartlett (Multi-Media technologist) is permanently based in the EDC to support staff – jbastaff@aquinas.ac.uk
