This qualification focuses on new media skills. This is a course for students who enjoy using ICT in a creative way. It focuses on applications such as image manipulation, web and games design rather than spreadsheets and word processors. It may therefore be studied alongside other IT courses if necessary. This course is 100% assessment there are no exams. Candidates must produce a portfolio of work that meets the course assessment criteria in order to pass. There are no grades. Candidates are provided with a series of board set client briefs. For each brief they must plan a solution, undertake it and then review their performance.
Course Outline Certificate 3 Units 1 GCSE
Unit 1 Digital Graphics Learn how to take effective digital images using a digital camera and manipulate these using software (Photoshop ©) in order to produce a photo montage for a client brief.
Unit 2 Web Authoring Understand the hardware and software requirements for web access. Design, develop and publish a small website based on a clients requirements using Adobe Dreamweaver ©
Unit 3 Digital Animation Understand how animation is produced both digitally and non-digitally. Design and create a digital animation using Adobe Flash © which uses a variety of digital animation techniques and embedded video.
Candidates are encouraged to then complete two more units to achieve the Diploma. The choice of units from this point on can be adapted to the individual interests of the students.

Although this course encourages creativity it is important that you plan and evaluate the work you produce in order to meet the assessment criteria and candidates should appreciate that written supporting work will be needed. Candidates will not need the software at home as they should be able to complete all assignments in college.
