Performing Arts (Acting)

BTEC National Award/Certificate EDEXCEL

The BTEC National Award in Performing Arts (Acting) is a “hands on” practical and vocational qualification designed for students with a real enthusiasm for acting.  There is the option at the end of the year to progress onto the BTEC National Certificate in Performing Arts.  If you have an interest and ability in Acting and would like to increase your performance skills in theatre practice, the BTEC National Award in Performing Arts (Acting) could be for you. It is the points equivalent of an A level and can be taken as a stand alone qualification, or combined with other A level courses.  There’s a great focus on practical work with the opportunity for learners to perform existing drama pieces.  Practical performance skills are assessed internally through practical projects and portfolio assignments.  Students are expected to work independently to keep their folders updated, to include detailed information about their personal development in all areas.  This new specification is excellent preparation for learners wishing to pursue careers in or around the performing arts, or to study Acting at a higher level, on a degree at University or a higher diploma at a professional Acting College.  There are numerous trips to the theatres in Manchester plus a residential trip to Barcelona related to the course. Skills workshops are an essential part of the course and are delivered by professional companies.
