Swine Flu Update

Prior to the summer break there were no known cases of Swine Flu amongst the college’s students or staff.  However, as the new term resumes we are anxious to reduce the risk of the H1N1 virus spreading in the college community.  This means that:

  • Students and staff should not attend college if they have Swine Flu symptoms.
  • All students and staff are urged to take seriously the hand-hygiene advice designed to reduce transmission of the virus as well as the “catch it, bin it, kill it” advice on the use of tissues.
  • All toilets in the college are already equipped with anti-viral hand soap and this has been supplemented with antiviral hand gel dispensers which are available throughout the college.  Students and staff are encouraged to use these facilities regularly during the college day.
  • All rooms in which computer keyboards are used by several or many people have been equipped with antiviral wipes.  Students and staff are encouraged to clean keyboards before use.  This applies also to telephone receivers used by several people.
  • Disinfection of all door handles will be carried out by specially employed and equipped cleaning staff throughout the college day.

At present the virus is not expected to be a major threat.  However, a second wave is predicted which could be more virulent, so we ask all staff and students to take these precautions seriously.
