This course is suitable for preparation for employment in the business sector, particularly in job roles where you will be expected to use communication and IT skills, liaise with customers and carry out customer-facing operational roles. This qualification is especially suitable for those wishing to gain a Level 2 qualification to support further study in FE.

Preferred Entry Requirements
This course would be suitable for students who:
have 3 GCSEs or less want to learn about how the business world works want to develop skills, knowledge and understanding that will enable progression.*

*Please note that your enrolment on to a particular course must be approved by the Head of that department.

Typical units of Study
Investigating Business - This unit looks at why and how companies operate in different ways. 

Enterprise and Operations - With the focus on how to start a business successfully, this unit deals with the fundamental issues surrounding new ventures. You set up your own business!

• Finance in Business - In conjunction with the above Unit, Finance is very important - where will the money come from to set your business up?  How do you calculate how much profit you might
  make?
• Communication in Business - A practical unit based on business communication skills, both IT and non-IT based, written and verbal.
• Working with People in Business - A Unit which looks at recruitment, motivation, employment legislation and methods of staff development.
• Keeping Customers Happy - A Unit based on Manchester Airport.  Another practical Unit studying how the airport deals with meeting the needs of its many different types of customer.

There are no exams.  Your tutor will assess your work for all Units and this will be checked by OCR. Six Units make up the qualification.  It is possible to study individual units alongside other qualifications if you want to.

Progression Routes
You can start work in roles such an office, sales or administration assistant and undertake NVQ or other occupational qualifications.  You can take Level 3 qualifications.
