Employment Skills

Levels II and III

Employment Skills offers a range of high quality, highly valued courses. They are popular with students going onto Higher Education as well as those taking up employment.

The courses available through the Employment Skills programme are:

  • Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX)
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • E-Type (Touch-typing)

City and Guilds/Institute of Legal Executives.
LEGAL EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA (LEVEL II & III)

This qualification is a national benchmark for those wanting to achieve high level skills for working within a legal environment.  It covers the technical skills of producing legal documentation and the practical application of administration and communication within a wide range of legal and business settings.

In order to complete the qualification at Certificate and Diploma levels, students must successfully complete assignment and tested modules that cover a range of topics including: Proofreading Skills, Audio Transcription and Working in the Legal Environment. In addition, students study modules in Legal Studies (Criminal and Employment Law) that provide a wider understanding of the legal system.

Aquinas students continue to be highly regarded and sought after by local legal firms who continue to offer their support by giving yearly presentations to students and offering them work placements and job opportunities.

British Computer Society
EUROPEAN COMPUTER DRIVING LICENCE (ECDL) (LEVEL II & III)

ECDL is a Europe-wide qualification that provides students with a wide range of information and communication technology skills.  It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike. The course consists of modules and at Level II covers:

  • How your computer works 
  • Spreadsheets
  • Database
  • Slide Presentation using PowerPoint
  • Word-processing 
  • Charts and Graphs 
  • Internet and E-mail

The ECDL Advanced qualification takes students to the next level of competence.  It is based on the ECDL task-based model, and tests an individual’s competence at a much higher level within particular applications.

e-TYPE (TOUCH-TYPING COURSE)

e-Type is a computer-generated training package that enables a fast way to learn how to touch-type at speed using the computer keyboard.

“e-Type pretty much sells itself when you consider how much unproductive time people can spend hunting and pecking around keyboards” (Local Government Officer).

City & Guilds
ADVANCED WORD PROCESSING

This qualification tests a range of document production skills at speed and with a requirement for high levels of accuracy.  The majority of students achieve a “1st Class Pass” as they build the skills required for the exam having also undertaken the e-Type course (above).  The Certificate is awarded at different levels  (I, II, III) with speed typing speeds of 35, 50, 70 words per minute.

There are no special entry requirements for these courses.*
