AS/A2 EDEXCEL
The course will provide students with opportunities to develop:
- an interest in and enthusiasm for a rigorous study of religion
- specialist knowledge and understanding
- appropriate academic skills
- critical and evaluative abilities.
Course Outline There are four units - 2 at AS and 2 at A2.
The AS It is worth 50% of the A level and is composed of Foundations and Investigations. Each part is worth 50% of the AS.
Foundations There is one exam in June of 1¾ hours. You will have to answer three questions from two areas of study. The areas we have opted to study are:
A. Philosophy of Religion B. Ethics C. The Fourth Gospel
Investigations This combines your research, teacher guidance and an exam. You will prepare and memorise an extended essay on a chosen topic. The exam question will be generic. We study environmental Ethics and Religion and Science.
The A2 It is worth 50% of the A level. The entry requirement to study this part of the course is at least a pass at AS.
Developments This continues the areas of study from AS level and will be examined in June with an exam of 1 ¾ hours.
Implications You will be asked to examine and explore a brief anthology of texts, using your knowledge gained from the areas you have studied in the other units. There will be an exam in June of 1 ¼ hours.
Preferred Entry Requirements 5 GCSE's grades A-C with B or higher in both English Language and English Literature.*
