On 13th February Strawberry Studio’s Historian Peter Wadsworth came and delivered a lecture to Music Technology A-Level and Music BTEC students about the history of Strawberry studios in Stockport. The studio began life as the first top class professional recording studio to be available in the UK outside of London, allowing local musicians the chance to record to the highest level without needing to travel to the capital. The team behind the creation of the studio went on to form 10CC and had global success. Probably the most famous song by 10CC ‘I’m not in Love’ marries classic pop song writing with cutting edge studio technique that Strawberry was famous for (i.e. multi-layered vocal texture) and even featured the studio receptionist’s whispered vocal in the bridge. The studio continued on into the 80’s and 90’s where many of Factory Records artists such as Joy Division recorded, guided by the legendary producer Martin Hannet.
