Sports at Aquinas
At Aquinas you can get involved in a number of both recreational sport and competitive sport activities. If you love sport and physical activity and are keen to play for fun, fitness and make new friends then you can come and sign up!

AoC Sport Competition
As a part of the Association of Colleges we have the opportunity to enter a number of regional competitions with the aim of qualifying for the National Championships which take place every year. Together with the traditional college sports including Football, Netball, Basketball and Rugby, the Aquinas students are also able to display their sporting talents in Sports including Badminton, Cross Country, Athletics, Cricket, Golf, Hockey, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.
Basketball
The basketball team play weekly fixtures in the Men’s U19 Conference South. Recreational basketball is also available to those who do not want to play competitively and there are weekly training sessions for both men and women. The team also compete in regional qualifiers for the AOC national finals.

FA Level 1 Coaching
The FA Level 1 in Coaching Football, leading to the achievement of the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football qualification, provides learners with an introduction to coaching and working with players from under 7 to open age. Learners will gain an insight into football in England, how it’s played and how they can coach to better support the development of future players. The qualification is designed to prepare learners to coach at the grassroots level.

Fitness Suite
Students are invited to come and use the fitness suite in their free time. Students can use the cardiovascular equipment and free weights in order to improve their health and general wellbeing. A full gym induction and PAR-Q form will be completed prior to training.
Football
The first and second Football team train and play weekly in competitive fixtures in the North West College’s league. Aquinas College has been extremely successful and have recently won the league and knockout competition. The football team also enter the Greater Manchester Cup (2016 finalist) and the national AoC cups.

Netball
The netball team play in the AOC regional qualifiers with the chance to go the national finals. This very successful team is highly competitive and plays and trains each week.

Run Club
A friendly, sociable and fun group for runners of all abilities. Whether new to running, looking to improve your fitness or an experienced runner with clear goals – everyone is welcome! Sessions include runs in the local park, speed work, fartlek and interval training. Running club is a great way to develop your fitness and make friends with like-minded people.

Sports Leaders
L3 sports leaders is a qualification looking at developing leadership and employability skills through different activities. Students are required to complete a learner evidence record alongside completing 30 hours volunteering across 3 settings, this does not necessarily need to be sport but can be various kinds of physical activity. The qualification is nationally recognised and holds 16 UCAS points. The course is subsidised by college but carries a cost of around £35 per student.

Yoga
Why do it? Balancing the stress of college, a social life, peer pressure, and other daily demands can be challenging. Yoga is a healthy way to work out these pressures, feel stronger, more relaxed and more flexible. It does not matter if you are a complete beginner or more experienced come along and enjoy some time for yourself!

Other Sports
At college we have a turn up and play policy in which students who would like to use their free time to take part in sport and exercise can thrive by doing the activity of their choice at a time that suits. Other sports on offer include; Table Tennis, Frisbee, Tennis, Trampolining and Badminton. We try to cater for all our students to allow them to develop and have fun whilst playing their chosen activity.
