Duke of Edinburgh Award
The College is an approved centre for the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award, a nationally recognised programme that gives young people the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and independence, and take on challenges outside the classroom.
The DofE Award encourages students to set personal goals and develop a range of practical and life skills through a combination of activities. At Gold level, students complete sections covering volunteering, physical activity and developing a new skill, alongside an expedition and a residential experience. The programme provides an excellent opportunity for students to challenge themselves, meet new people and develop qualities such as resilience, teamwork, organisation and commitment — all of which can be valuable for further study, employment and life beyond college.
We currently offer both Gold and Direct Gold awards. Students who have already completed their Silver Award can progress to Gold and complete the programme over 12 months. Students who have not previously completed a DofE Award can join Direct Gold and undertake the full Gold programme over 18 months.
Whether students are looking to build on previous DofE experience or take on an exciting new challenge, the Gold Award is a rewarding way to make the most of their time at college, develop their interests and demonstrate their determination and independence.”
