Uniformed Protective Services BTEC
BTEC Uniformed Protective Services is a relatively new subject at Aquinas College which offers a wide ranging curriculum touching on areas of practical leadership and teamwork activities, Sociology, Police related topics such as crime prevention and the laws relating to policing and Law. It encourages students to develop their independent research skills and incorporates a range of assessment methods including written reports, video presentations and observed activities.
The aim of this course is to familiarise students with the issues faced and tackled by British Public Services, engendering a public service ethos and an awareness of the important role these organisations play in British daily life. We strive to provide a broad based learning experience responding to a range of ideas and themes.

The course is ideally suited to those who see themselves in a future Public Service Role. Many students have professed an interest in the Police or Army, and the leadership and teamwork modules certainly provide some preparation for disciplines and values involved in such work. However, the varied issues covered also provide a good grounding for careers as diverse as teaching, criminology, law, local government and beyond.
In terms of further study, current students have applied for HE level courses in Law, Teaching, Police studies, Criminology and Media Studies.
A trip to the Police museum, visits and guest speakers from a variety of services including the Police, Fire, Ambulance etc and a residential with the Army in Lower Sixth.
