The Lower Sixth A level Drama and Theatre studies went to the Bolton Octagon for a morning showing of Animal Farm. The play tells the story of the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrowing their master and taking over. They imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality for all. However, over time a cunning and brutal elite among them, masterminded by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, gradually take control. Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they once thought and find themselves ensnared as one tyranny is replaced with another. The show had some amazingly skilled actors using many accents, becoming a variety of animals using their voice and physicality effectively.
Animal Farm has been recognised as one of The Stage’s Top 50 Shows of 2024 and 45 of our students had the pleasure of seeing it.
