Our Ex-Principal Ambrose Smith has kindly delivered a lecture about the dangers of climate change to all Lower Sixth students through the RE programme. In the spirit of ‘Laudato Si’ and our call to care for our common home, Ambrose reminded students of the scientific facts of climate change, particularly focussing on the absorption of infrared by greenhouse gases as the key issue. Students were reminded of the disastrous consequences predicted by many respected scientists if humans don’t start to reduce their carbon emissions.
The students were then pointed to Hannah Ritchie’s work Clearing the Air which offers 50 simple answers and solutions to some of the key questions about climate change. Students are reminded that there are copies of Hannah’s book in the library which they may want to borrow. We are very grateful that Ambrose volunteered so much of his time to this endeavour and we have every faith that our students will be ambassadors for the planet.
