In February we embarked on our 21st visit to India with a group of 34 students and 4 members of staff. As with previous years, the experience proved to be both inspirational and deeply rewarding for everyone involved. We received a wonderful welcome from the children at Prem Dan Garden School, joined by pupils from the Geeta Nagar and Reay Road slums. Their gratitude was deeply moving and highlighted the importance of the long-standing relationship between Aquinas College and the Prem Dan community.
The children delighted us with a range of dances and songs, each class proudly performing routines they had rehearsed. Sister Sylvia, along with the staff, greeted us warmly and expressed heartfelt thanks for the 17 trunks of educational resources funded through student-led fundraising. Prior to travelling, our students attended planning meetings where they organised activities, later delivering four engaging workshops with enthusiasm and professionalism. They also enjoyed spending time at the girls’ hostel, dancing and chatting together.

For the second part of the trip, we travelled overnight by train to Agra—an adventure the students embraced despite initial apprehension. A visit to the Taj Mahal was a clear highlight, its beauty leaving everyone in awe. We also visited an elephant sanctuary run by Wildlife SOS, where students saw the positive impact of rescue and rehabilitation work for previously exploited animals.
Overall, the trip created lasting memories and fostered new friendships. The experience broadened students’ global perspectives, increased their confidence, and encouraged deeper understanding, tolerance and respect for others, reflecting the core values at the heart of the college’s mission.
