Perhaps the highlight of our recent US Politics trip was a visit to the New York Times’ Washington Bureau to meet with three of their senior journalists, Elisabeth Bumiller (Writer at Large), Elizabeth Kennedy (White House Editor), and Glenn Thrush (Department of Justice writer). The students heard about the challenges of covering the Trump presidency, along with getting some off-the-record commentary on this unprecedented period in US government. The journalists each spent time discussing their careers and taking questions from students. For anyone thinking of a career in journalism, or any aspect of media coverage, our visit to the NYT would have been informative and inspiring in equal measure.
