In February this year, Aquinas College took part in some research led by Associate Professor Tomomi Ohba from Tama University in Japan. The research was looking at foreign language education across the world and Aquinas was one of the schools approached in the UK because of our teaching of Japanese. Classes were observed in all languages and teachers were interviewed.
Continuing on from this, we arranged a Zoom session with some aspiring language teachers in Tama University and our very own students of Japanese. The session was held entirely in Japanese and involved everyone giving a brief self introduction, a word game and a quiz about Japan. The last part of the session saw students assigned into breakout rooms where they chatted. Topics covered included Japan’s tourist spots, university life, hobbies, music and more.
In June our students will take part in a similar session which will this time be held in English for the benefit of the students studying English at Tama University.
