Students Collaborate with Salford University in Creative Mentoring Project
Students from Aquinas College recently took part in an inspiring collaboration with the University of Salford as part of the Creative Mentoring Programme — a project designed to nurture creative skills, encourage critical thinking, and offer insight into careers in the creative industries.
The three-day programme brought together Aquinas students and creative mentors from Salford University, with the goal of using storytelling as a tool to explore themes of social justice, identity, and youth voice.
The project kicked off with a visit to the University of Salford, where students met their mentors in person and began developing ideas for their group projects. Following this, each group engaged in two hours of online mentoring, allowing them to refine their concepts and bring their stories to life.
The final day saw Salford mentors visit Aquinas College to host a public screening and exhibition in the lecture theatre, where students proudly presented their completed projects.
The students were split into three groups, each focusing on a unique creative outcome:
Group 1: Wear the Change
This group created a fashion and design-led campaign, using wearable art to explore themes of social justice and identity.
Group 2: Stories in Motion
Blending film, music, dance, and design, this group crafted a moving short film that expressed personal experiences of injustice.
Group 3: Justice Unfiltered
This group took a documentary-style approach, producing a media project that shared young people’s perspectives on justice and equality.
