As part of the ongoing celebrations for the Jubilee Year, Aquinas students have set themselves a target to walk the distance from Aquinas College to Rome. This means that students will collectively walk 1,300 miles over the coming weeks. As part of this challenge, all lower sixth students this week completed a pilgrimage in their RE lesson. Pilgrimages are known to have serious health, social and, of course, spiritual benefits.
Pilgrimages can be enjoyed by believers and atheists alike and the College are running a trip in July for 15 students to complete part of the ‘Camino’. Some classes completed a mile long pilgrimage around the College grounds, which culminated in a visit to the Chapel.
Around 480 walked their pilgrimage to St Joseph’s RC Church in Stockport which has been designated as a pilgrim Church. The students were fantastic and enjoyed the physical and social wellbeing of the walk and the emotional and spiritual benefits of quiet reflection in the Church.
